Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri has unveiled new capabilities for the company's text-based offshoot Threads. The social networking platform has included a markup tool that allows you to highlight text or draw over information when reposting it. For example, you can utilise the feature to respond to someone's post on Threads and indicate what resonates with you.

Threads has also included a new "Media" option, which allows you and other users to instantly view a filtered feed of any photographs and videos you've shared on your account. You'll find it on your profile page, between the Threads, Replies, and Reposts options.

Mosseri went on to say that the community had been requesting the Media tab for quite some time. For comparison, Threads' competitor platform X (previously Twitter) already has a "Media" timeline on profile pages that chronologically displays all of your postings with photographs and videos.

Speaking of photography, the third feature is that the Meta-owned social networking platform allows you to tag individuals when you share images on your account. It's worth mentioning that Threads already supports the hashtag feature, although it operates differently than other sites such as Instagram.

Threads is a relatively new platform from Meta, which released approximately a year and a half ago. Threads' first version missed several critical features, the majority of which were incorporated in subsequent releases. However, one major feature it currently lacks is Direct Messages, despite the company's explanation.

The new feature dump follows Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's announcement that Threads had topped 320 million active users. In December 2024, the platform saw an increase of approximately 20 million monthly active users.
