According to the Financial Times, OpenAI is considering whether to include advertisements in ChatGPT. OpenAI is considering placing advertisements in ChatGPT to cover its expenses, most likely for non-paying users, according to Sarah Friar, the company's chief financial officer.

According to Friar, there are currently no plans to enter the advertising industry. She did state that the business will consider where to put advertisements if they do wind up in the app.

Friar asserted in the interview that she and Kevin Weil, the chief product officer of OpenAI, have advertising experience. She noted that the CPO joined from Instagram and has experience in implementing advertisements, which OpenAI may find helpful.

Shivakumar Venkataraman, a member of Google's search advertising team, was also recently employed by the AI business. This could help AI generate revenue through advertisements. According to an unnamed person who talked to the Financial Times, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is becoming more receptive to the concept of running advertisements.

At the moment, OpenAI makes money from its AI by allowing third-party developers to include its models into their apps through its API. Businesses and individuals can also purchase ChatGPT's premium edition for a comparatively high price.

Although majority of the company's users are free, they are limited in the number of prompts they can send to GPT-4o before being switched to GPT-4o small, which uses fewer resources but still functions incredibly well.

For those who are afraid of advertisements in ChatGPT, Friar explains that they might not appear right now because there are low-hanging fruit that the company can take advantage of to generate revenue, but we should anticipate seeing them eventually.
