Nintendo surprised everyone by revealing the first peek at their future platform. As many thought, it will be a direct sequel to the Switch console, which offered both portable and docked modes for users to choose from. The newest iteration is simply called the Nintendo Switch 2. Release date and pricing information are yet to be published.

The majority of the movie focusses on the look and feel of the hardware itself, demonstrating how the screen, larger joycons, snapping motion to the console, new connectivity ports, built-in stand, and other features have evolved since the original hardware. There's also a glimpse of the device's new docking station, which will allow it to connect to larger displays and charge.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will have its own exclusives throughout its existence, but Nintendo has stated that it will be able to play original Nintendo Switch games. This will handle both print and digital titles, however the whole collection does not appear to be supported. More information about backwards compatibility will be provided later.

Nintendo has not yet announced an official release date for the Nintendo Switch 2, instead providing a vague "2025" launch timeframe. However, several sources indicate that it will be available to fans in the first half of the year. Expect a complete announcement and analysis of hardware specifications for its Nvidia-powered chip soon.

On April 2, 2025, the firm will have a Nintendo Direct presentation highlighting the new hardware.
